For Referring Physicians

Patient Referrals Welcome

To refer a patient to the Brain Tumor Program

The Brain Tumor Program at 617-667-1665
or
The Cancer Services line at 617-667-1900

The Cancer Services Line has been set up at Beth Israel Deaconess MedicalCenter specifically for physicians who would like to refer a patient. This line is answered by a triage nurse who assist you promptly to determine who would be the best specialist for your patient, arranges the appointment(s) so that your patient can be seen by all the members of the in one visit if possible and makes a connection between you and the specialist.

Evaluation of Referred Patients

In order to facilitate our evaluation of referred patients, arrangements will be made to obtain clinic notes, neuroimaging scans, and pathology slides from referring physicians. Because neuroimaging features and exact pathological diagnosis are necessary for proper evaluation of patients, every effort will be made to obtain these items prior to evaluation.

Working with Referring Physicians

Members of the Brain Tumor Program maintain close working relationships with referring physicians. As recommendations are finalized, referring physicians are contacted by phone or by fax regarding our recommended treatment plan. A formal consultation note is also sent to the referring physician within one week. In addition, to ensure continuity of care, we encourage patients to follow-up with their primary care or referring physicians.
