Research and Clinical Trials
Research Led by Rami Burstein, PhD
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is proud to be at the forefront of headache medicine with a team led by
Rami Burstein, PhD, one of the
most renowned researchers in the field.
Dr. Burstein is the Academic Director of the Comprehensive Headache Center. His groundbreaking findings include the individualization of headache medicine, that
helps to determine which drug should be given to an individual patient, and the discovery of brain circuits that help explain patients'
sensitivity to light (photophobia) and touch (allodynia).
Patients Gain Access to Latest Treatments
As a patient at the BIDMC Comprehensive Headache Center, you have the opportunity to participate in one of our clinical research trials and gain access to the latest breakthrough treatments.
When you first meet with your headache specialist,
you will be asked about your interest in participating. While participation is completely voluntary, clinical trials can give patients
access to new approaches that often do not exist elsewhere. They can also offer a chance to be part of the discovery process as scientists learn more about what causes
headaches and discover new methods that can help.
State-of-the-Art Facility
Our state-of-the-art facility, designed specifically for the headache patient, includes a designated research area for Dr. Burstein and his team. It is here that this
work to better understand and treat headache pain takes place.
