Non-Surgical Spine Treatment

Our specialists in the Spine Center at BIDMC work with you to determine the best treatment option(s) for your back or neck condition. For many of our patients, treatment does not include surgery. Most back and neck pain will respond to non-surgical treatment options.

The key to managing back or neck pain is to locate its source. For example:

  • Back pain accompanied by hip pain could originate from the lumbar spine, and not be the result of a primary joint problem of the hip itself.
  • Pain in your neck can be caused by a shoulder injury.
  • Neck-related disc disease could be felt as shoulder and arm pain.

Once the pain’s source is pinpointed, your specialist will develop an individualized treatment plan for you.

If you are a candidate for a spinal injection to help relieve your pain, read
All About Your Spinal Injection (PDF) and watch our spinal injection videos. We developed these materials to help you understand what to expect. If you still have questions, please call us at 617-754-9000.
