During the last weeks of pregnancy, most moms have given some thought as to how they intend to feed their baby….., be it breastfeed/ formula feed/or some combination of both. Most moms and certainly working moms may also have considered that at some point along their breastfeeding journey, they will need something the likes of which they have never experienced before...a breast-pump. At first glance, it can be a pretty intimidating product, what with the hoses, and cups and sound of the motor....but for many it’s a necessary product that in a short while becomes very familiar. It is what it is, and hopefully it does its job quickly and efficiently....
Figuring out how it use a breast-pump is one thing, but before we get ahead of ourselves….. What can be a whole lot trickier, may be understanding your insurance coverage in regards to paying for it. Insurance companies vary widely, and it's a really good idea to find out what your coverage is before you go out and lay down some serious cash, and before you arrive on our postpartum units. Below is a link to some of the more commonly asked questions regarding insurance coverage and breast-pumps.
At BIDMC we also work with a vendor, M&M Medical Supply, INC. (877.966.6337). They work with most insurances and delivery directly to our postpartum units. If you have additional questions about your specific coverage, please contact your insurance company prior to your delivery.
