Michelle Lai, MD, MPH
Michelle Lai, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Attending in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Dr. Lai received her MD and MPH from Columbia University, New York in 2002. She did her internship, residency and fellowship training at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Her clinical and research interests include Viral Hepatitis, Liver Transplantation and Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Dr. Lai has received a grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to research noninvasive evaluation of NAFLD.
Raza Malik, MD, PhD
Raza Malik, MD, PhD is an Attending in Hepatology & Transplant Hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Malik received his MD from King's College London and a PhD in Liver Cell Biology & Hepatology from University College London. He completed specialist clinical training in liver medicine, including the NAFLD component of a multi-disciplinary obesity service.
He has written numerous research articles in the field and has recently pioneered a liver screening program for patients with risk factors for fatty liver disease using noninvasive modalities.
Nezam Afdhal, MD
Nezam H. Afdhal., MD is the director of Hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Afdhal received his MD from Royal College of Surgeons and completed his fellowships at St Vincent's Hospital & University College, and Boston University School of Medicine.
He has been involved in the treatment and therapy of patients with chronic liver disease and viral hepatitis and is evaluating novel anti-viral drugs for hepatitis and developing new treatments for chronic liver disease. His research interests include Viral hepatitis, Liver transplantation and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.
Jody Dushay, MD, MMSc
Jody Dushay, MD, MMSc graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2000. She did her internal medicine and residency training at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and her adult endocrine fellowship training at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Joslin Diabetes Center (2005-2008). She earned a Masters in Medical Sciences in the Clinical Invesitgator Training Program at Harvard Medical School (2007-2009).
Her clinical and clinical research interests include obesity, diabetes and nonacoholic fatty liver disease. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.
Annie Vong, PharmD
Annie Vong, PharmD is a Clinical Pharmacist in Hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an Adjunct Instructor in Pharmacy Practice at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Dr. Vong received her PharmD from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Boston in 2010. She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Her clinical and research interests include Viral Hepatitis, Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, and Metabolic Syndrome.
Sandy Allonen, MEd, RD, LDN
Sandra Allonen MEd, RD, LDN graduated from Framingham State with BS in Food & Nutrition. She received her RD in 1997 from Framingham State and completed her master's in Education in 1999 from Framingham State. She has worked for an elder nutrition program in Metrowest Boston. She also worked for the DaVita Dialysis Center.
She presently divides her time working between the Harvard Medical School's Family Van and as an outpatient ambulatory dietitian at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Meredith Rourke, RN
Meredith Rourke graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a degree in Psychology and Nursing. She is currently a Registered Nurse in the Liver Center, Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Her interests include Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and NASH.
Angelica Francescucci, CRA
Angelica Francescucci graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Allied Health Sceince. She is currently a Clinical Research Assistant at the Liver Research Center, Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Her research interests include, Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and long-term outcomes of bariatric surgery in patients with NASH.
