About Us

Chief of Interventional Pulmonology Armin Ernst, MD, left, and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery Malcolm DeCamp, MD, discuss a patient's CT scan. The Chest Disease Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, New England's first and only clinical center dedicated specifically to diseases of the chest, was created with the goal of improving patient care and the patient experience.

Chest diseases, such as lung and esophageal cancer, airway obstruction, and unexplained shortness of breath, often require treatment from various specialists, which can slow down treatment and also create more difficulty for patients. Additionally, surgical and non-surgical interventions have historically occurred on separate tracks, with a lack of collaboration between these specialists.

With this in mind, the Chest Disease Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center was created with the goal of strengthening collaboration among specialists and improving care and comfort for patients. The Chest Disease Center has brought leading specialists together to pioneer some of the most advance procedures in the care of patients with chest diseases.
