Extensive Network of Cancer Support Services

We also offer easy access to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's (BIDMC) extensive network of cancer support services. These services include:

  • Living with Cancer, an informative blog for women with breast cancer, written by Hester Hill Schnipper, LICSW, OSW-C, Chief of Oncology Social Work at BIDMC.
  • Windows of Hope, a specialty shop providing products and services specifically for cancer patients. Windows of Hope is located on the 9th floor of the Carl J. Shapiro Clinical Center, and is open Monday through Friday, from 9:30 am to 5 pm, or by appointment. Call the shop at 617-667-1899.
  • Patient-to-Patient, Heart-to-Heart, a cancer peer support program at BIDMC. This program helps meet the needs of patients and families at all stages of cancer diagnosis, treatment and survival. Please call 617-667-2661 for more information.
  • Lotsa Helping Hands is a simple, immediate way for friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to assist loved ones during their stay in the hospital and beyond.
  • Resources and information, a list of helpful websites and books related to breast cancer.
  • Support Groups dedicated to women diagnosed with breast cancer. We can connect you with support groups here at BIDMC, or in the community, if you are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or if you have finished treatment. Please call 617-667-2661 for more information.
  • Going Forward is an innovative six-week program specifically designed for cancer survivors. Our program provides you with the tools necessary to successfully implement a nutrition, exercise, and stress management regimen to improve your overall health.
  • Take Sail is a special survivorship program, during and after treatment at BIDMC, to improve your personal experience of living with, through and beyond breast cancer.

Dedicated Social Worker

Our BreastCare Center has a dedicated social worker, devoted to helping you and your family reduce the psychological and social stress associated with a breast cancer diagnosis. We offer individual, couple or family therapy to enhance your health and well-being, and to help you manage your care. We can connect you with educational programs and services. Services are wide-ranging and include helping with everything from financial and transportation concerns, to learning how to talk to your children, cope with your emotions and live with cancer.
