Cancer Center Recognized for Quality Oncology Care
The Cancer Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is proud to be recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program for meeting the highest quality standards for cancer care.
The Cancer Center’s QOPI Certification in 2012 was one of the first awarded to an academic medical center. BIDMC is the only hospital in Boston s with this status.
The QOPI organization, run by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), biannually collects data that provides insight into national trends in cancer care. Participation in the process provides practices with quality improvement goals, learning opportunities and feedback, according to ASCO.
The rigorous certification process included a day-long site visit that audited nursing processes during chemotherapy administration, the process of obtaining and documenting informed consent and treatment details. The overall focus of QOPI certification is a commitment to ongoing process improvement. Certification is for three years.
