The Cancer Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center delivers advanced cancer care in collaboration with affiliates throughout Eastern Massachusetts. The Cancer Center has formed these affiliations with community-based colleagues who share our commitment to providing patients with personalized treatment, clinical excellence and compassionate care.
Typically patients receive most of their care in the community setting. When diagnostic tools or specialized procedures that are not available in the community are needed, the community-based oncologist makes a seamless referral to the BIDMC Cancer Center in Boston.
Services most frequently provided include expert pathology studies; CyberKnife (a highly precise form of radiation used when surgery is not an option); and multidisciplinary clinics, in which the patient is evaluated by specialists from several disciplines during a single visit. Patients also benefit from highly specialized services provided by BIDMC colleagues who are expert in cardiology, gastrointestinal medicine, hepatobiliary medicine and other fields.
The BIDMC Cancer Center supports community-based colleagues through educational outreach, including consultations via state-of-the-art telecommunications links and Grand Rounds presentations. We also partner with them to present educational opportunities to patients in the community.
