Health Care Law and Policy
There is so much happening right now in our country that it seems impossible to keep up. Never before have I been leaving messages for my senators and representative while I am brewing the morning's coffee. Never before has it felt as though we are tottering on the edge of something enormous. This is not a space for politics, I know, but all of us surely share similar concerns about at least one issue: the Affordable Care Act/ACA/Obamacare. The election of Donald Trump as president in November reignited the debate about the state of
American health care. From the importance of health insurance to the cost of prescription medicines,
the news cycle brings us daily updates on what the incoming Trump Administration along with House
and Senate may or may not do with the A!ordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
We know hearing so many reports on potential changes to the law can be confusing. As someone with
breast cancer, you may be wondering if you will be able to get a!ordable health insurance, whether
you should switch plans or doctors, whether the treatment options you’ve discussed will still be made
available to you. Most important, you may be asking when changes to the law will go into e!ect, so that you can plan ahead. With the inauguration a day away, these issues are coming sharply into focus.
We’re here to help. Throughout the coming year, LBBC sta! members and healthcare experts are partnering to bring you easy-tounderstand, timely reports on major changes to the A!ordable Care Act and other laws, regulations and guidance that affect your access to care. You’ll be able to access a Health Care Newsroom at LBBC.ORG where we’ll post articles with updates on the ACA, how changes may impact you and practical tips on what to do next. And, once plans for replacing the ACA are available, we’ll help explain the new plan, too.
