A Lifestyle Resource
Yesterday I received a call from Lisa Lurie, the co-founder and CEO of a new organization called Cancer be Glammed. Founded to help women through and beyond treatment, this is a novel and potentially helpful resource.
Here is an email that I received from Ms. Lurie. It contains more information and a link to their site:
My name is Lisa Lurie, and I am a breast cancer survivor and the co-founder of Cancer Be Glammed. Cancer Be Glammed prepares women facing all forms of cancer for the visible, body-altering side effects of surgery and treatment, and enables them to recover with dignity, self-esteem, and personal style.
Like many women diagnosed with cancer, I received excellent care and information from my healthcare team, but I was totally unprepared for coping with the visible fallout from surgery and treatment. In a very short period of time, I became breast-less, bald, and overweight. It was devastating. Not just for me but for my family as well.
When I recovered, I became determined to help other women have a better physical and emotional recovery than I had experienced. I co-founded Cancer Be Glammed to create a community of women sharing their own experiences, and to provide women, (newly diagnosed through survivorship), with easy access to practical-yet-fashionable recovery products and lifestyle solutions. My goal-- to help them to manage their new body issues, reclaim their self-esteem, and to keep their lifestyle intact.
I have been meeting with oncology social workers, Psychosocial Oncology Departments, support group leaders, and cancer resource centers at hospitals to discuss how Cancer Be Glammed can be a valuable tool for patients, patient engagement, and for oncology nurses and healthcare teams. The best way to get a sense of how we support women is to view the Cancer Be Glammed website. Please note, we do not sell any products. Our shopping directory and gift guide suggest beneficial recovery products. We offer links to the companies where people can purchase them if interested.
