What do you think ultimately made you choose BIDMC?

During my job search I was looking to transition into a highly academic acute hospital setting. I felt doing interaction between a rehab staff and medical staff would increase my ability to provide a high caliber service to patients. BIDMC was able to offer me all of this and more.

Of the reasons you chose your profession, which are accentuated by working at BIDMC?

Hourly opportunities to give acutely ill patients the confidence to resume their daily living tasks. Daily educational opportunities to better understand the human psyche and human function. Providing patients with the ability and resources to successfully complete activities they wouldn't ever imagine after a medical procedure of some sort.

What do you find most rewarding about your work that is unique to BIDMC?

As compared to previous work experiences, the rehab staff at BIDMC are consulted by doctors to determine the most appropriate discharge setting for their patients. Our discharge recommendations are often the deciding factor for a safe patient discharge (whether it be home or to a rehab center). Knowing how valued and respected the rehab staff is by our colleagues is the most rewarding aspects of the job.

Generally speaking, can you describe your ideal workday?

At BIDMC, we work on an orthopedic/trauma rotation, evaluating and treating patients with hand-related injuries as well as neurological disorders. Also to have veteran therapists and doctors available at my disposal to discuss these cases and learn alternative ways to increase the patient populations function in the community.
