Benefits

At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, we understand that you have a life beyond your commitment with us. And because we know that the work you do is not only for the good of the patients we take care of - but also for the good of you and yours - listed below are just some of the many amenities we provide to make sure you're taken care of too.

All employees who are regularly scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week are eligible for the Employee Benefits Program:

... Health, Dental, Vision and More ...

During your first month of employment, you may select comprehensive individual, dual or family coverage in one of several health insurance options. The amount you pay each week for health, dental and vision premiums will be paid with pretax dollars before federal, state, and social security taxes are withheld. Through Harvard Pilgrim Health Insurance you can elect the following plans: CareGroup Value Plan, CareGroup Plus Plan or a PPO plan (plans administered by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care). You can also elect the HMO plan through Neighborhood Health. Our dental insurance is through Delta Dental and we also offer a vision plan through EyeMed Vision Care. Other available benefits include: Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance, Employee Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, Spousal and Dependant Life Insurance, Health and Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts and Pre-Paid Legal Insurance. You may choose to have your benefits become effective your first day of employment.

... Retirement Account ...

BIDMC wants you to feel secure about your future. Therefore, regular employees who are at least 21 years of age and complete at least 1,000 hours of service during the first year of employment become participants in the Cash Balance Pension Plan one year from date of hire. Credits to your account are a percentage of your annual pay based on your age and years of service. You own, or become "vested" in, your account after completing three years of vesting service.

... 401(k) and 403(b) Programs ...

And we want to help. You may also participate in voluntary retirement savings programs that offer you the advantage of saving money while deferring taxes. After one year of employment, BIDMC will match 50 cents of each dollar you contribute up to 4% of your pensionable earnings into the 401(k) plan. And it is immediately vested.

... Earned Time ...

It's your time, use it as you need to. Earned Time (ET) is a program in which traditional sick, vacation and holiday hours are combined to provide you with maximum flexibility in determining the use of your paid time-off benefit. Full-time employees accrue 28 days of ET per year, and new hires may begin using ET after six months of continuous employment. You will earn additional days as your years of service increase. ET is pro-rated for regular part-time employees who work less than 40 hours per week.

... Absences for Death in the Immediate Family ...

Family should always come first. Regular employees are eligible immediately for leave up to three consecutive working days, with full pay, for a death in the immediate family. In general, immediate family is defined as a parent, sister, brother, spouse, spousal equivalent, child or grandparent.
