From physical therapy to occupational therapy to speech therapy - inpatient or outpatient - BIDMC's Rehabilitation Services is a collegial and caring department that is respected and highly regarded throughout our hospital. You'll be part of an integrated and diverse team that works closely with our staff of physicians and nurses to provide the best possible rehabilitative care to our patients.

Inpatient Physical Therapy offers:

  • Six-month clinical rotations with a diverse caseload of medically-complex patients
  • An environment that encourages you to develop professionally by attending, courses and conferences, allows the time off to do so, and subsidizes travel and tuition expenses
  • Four 10-hour shifts/week

Inpatient Occupational Therapy offers:

  • Six-month clinical rotations with a diverse caseload of medically-complex patients, including those with upper extremity trauma
  • Access to experienced senior therapists, including certified hand therapists
  • Opportunities to teach and participate in research at local universities

Voice, Speech and Swallowing Disorders offers:

  • The opportunity to work with medically-complex patients with head and neck surgery, swallowing disorders or voice impairments
  • The latest state-of-the-art Digital Swallowing Work Station, FEES, videofluoroscopy and computerized speech laboratory
  • Close collaborations with BIDMC physicians, including opportunities to participate in research

The Outpatient Rehabilitation Department offers:

  • A rich patient base that involves 20,000 patient visits annually in physical and occupational therapy
  • A state-of-the-art, 8,000-square-foot facility with cutting-edge equipment including a therapeutic pool
  • Web-based online medical records
  • Access to on-line journals
  • Experienced staff and clinical specialists
  • Off-site locations in Lexington, Chelsea and Dorchester
