Community Network
Our commitment to community is stronger than ever, standing firmly as part of the Beth Israel Deaconess mission to provide exceptional patient care supported by world-class teaching and research. Time and time again, we reveal the true character of our organization and our staff through our ongoing efforts in the community. It is not by chance that so many of our physicians, nurses, trustees, volunteers and other staff take leading roles in improving medical care not only in our communities, but also in other parts of the world. This passion to care for society's most vulnerable is embraced by the entire Beth Israel Deaconess family.
BIDMC’s expertise reaches well beyond downtown Boston. We have integrated a wide range of services with our community partner Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham, sharing physicians and technology to benefit the community. Satellite locations in Chelsea and Lexington, as well as BID Cancer Care in Waltham, offer convenience for patients. The Bowdoin Street Health Center in Dorchester and relationships with other health centers help BIDMC reach out to Boston’s neighborhoods.
BIDMC has also joined forces with established community providers to expand access to the highest-quality care close to home.
- BIDMC and Milton Hospital have a comprehensive affiliation. This longstanding affiliation is expected to become an even more significant corporate relationship within the next few months.
In collaboration with the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the medical center works closely with, among others:
- Anna Jaques Hospital and Whittier IPA in Newburyport
- Lawrence General Hospital
- MetroWest Medical Center
- Northeast Health System (Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals)
- Commonwealth Hematology Oncology Group
Community Health Centers
The medical center has seven affiliated health centers:
- Bowdoin Street Community Health Center (owned by BIDMC)
- The Dimock Center
- Fenway Community Health Center
- Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center
- Outer Cape Health Services
- Sidney Borum Jr. Health Center
- South Cove Community Health Center
These centers have come together to form the Community Care Alliance (CCA) and collectively they operate 19 sites throughout Boston, Waltham, Quincy and Cape Cod. Each year, BIDMC provides financial support to the health centers to maximize the scale and scope of community-based primary care, health education and social services. But financial sponsorship is just one piece of our partnership.
The centers help us understand the community perspective and together, we identify specific needs of their diverse populations. In turn, community providers are afforded unique clinical and educational opportunities through staff appointments at BIDMC and Harvard Medical School. By sharing resources and expertise, we are able to create effective, culturally responsive programs and initiatives to enhance the health and well-being of underserved communities.
