Meet Our Team
Marlene DaCosta is the manager at the Tanger Be Well Center and has more than 17 years experience as an Exercise Physiologist. She holds a B.S. in health education with a minor in exercise science from Penn State University and a M.A. degree in Education with a concentration in Fitness Management from the University of Connecticut. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and a Wellcoaches® Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She enjoys working with individuals that have a variety of conditions including osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, arthritis, HIV and other special needs.
Teaches Anything Goes
Kara Jeter has been teaching fitness classes for over 15 years and loves the combination of cardio and weight training for a total body workout for all levels. Kara is currently pursuing her Masters of Public Health at Boston University. She enjoys running with her dogs and being outdoors in her free time.
Michael Hoey holds a B.S. degree in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College and an M.S. degree in Exercise Science focused on sports psychology and performance counseling from Springfield College. He is a Level 1 Certified Strength Coach through Poliquin International, a Level 2 Advanced Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting and a Certified Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach. Michael is currently competing in strength sports, and also enjoys hiking, climbing and traveling.
Leddy Gallagher holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Keene State College and a Master of Science degree in Exercise and Health Science from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, MA. She has an interest in working with individuals with disabilities and spent the last semester of her Master’s program participating in many adapted physical activity programs. She loves to play field hockey and travel, but also enjoys staying home to binge-watch her favorite TV shows.
Ricardo Elien holds a B.S. degree in Kinesiology from the University of Rhode Island. He is a Certified Personal Trainer from National Personal Training Institute (NPTI). Ric enjoys helping individuals live a healthier life; he believes an active life leads to a less stressful and longer life. He enjoys spending time with his family and mentoring young people.
Althea Lawrence is the administrative assistant and oversees all aspects of the office and the fitness facility. She has been with the Tanger Be Well Center for over 10 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management-Economics and Sociology from Emmanuel College and a Master of Management degree from Cambridge College. She enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with loved ones and watching a good movie.
Jane Manwaring, Office Assistant, joined Be Well as a volunteer in 1998, having taken 'early retirement' from Boston College, where she was Assistant to the Chairperson in the Department of Psychology. She came on staff at Be Well a year later and now works part-time, providing a range of office assistance and Front Desk coverage. She holds a B.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin.
Teaches Muscle Pump
Deb Brice has enjoyed teaching muscle conditioning classes at Be Well for 9 years. For the past 16 years Deb has worked at BIDMC as an administrative assistant with the Department of Neonatology. In addition to being a very busy mom, she volunteers for "cuddler" of NICU babies.
Teaches Muscle Conditioning, Cardio Blast and Bosu, Bands & Balls
Kim Clark is certified in cardio kickboxing; core training; Reebok core board; BOSU core & cardio training; and weight lifting. Kim is a self-employed business development specialist. She also lectures on topics in sales, marketing and the development of business plans. Kim's hobbies include running and attending the ballet and theater.
Teaches Vinyasa Yoga and Pilates
Anna Grossman has been sharing her love of yoga with others for over 5 years. In her free time she enjoys Pilates, hiking, and cooking.
Teaches Cardio Express and Awesome Abs
Sally Gwin has been an aerobics instructor for over 10 years. When not teaching a variety of classes at Be Well, she works as an administrative coordinator in the Department of Surgery at BIDMC. She is part of the BIDMC Inspirational Singers choir and enjoys walking her dog Ox, horseback riding, and ice skating, along with being a master potter.
Linda Della Porta
Linda Della Porta teaches yoga at all levels in addition to instructing adapted yoga workshops. She received her yoga certification through the Kripalu center and has completed training in Forrest, Vinyasa, and Restorative yoga. Linda works as an occupational therapist at BIDMC and in her free time she volunteers in teaching yoga to women in transitional settings such as safe houses and detox centers.
Teaches Vinyasa Yoga
Rebecca Allen received her initial 200 hour RYT certification in March 2013 studying under David Vendetti and Ame Wren. In March 2015 she completed her advanced teacher training under Jacqui Bonwell. After a decade of coaching women triathletes and competing in sprint, olympic and half-iron races, Rebecca sought a new practice that would balance both physical and mental endurance. Rebecca offers challenging sequences guided by smart alignment that allow students to explore their strength and play at their edge while balancing the mindfulness of the practice.
Geraldine Portillo is a Zumba instructor specializing in different formats of Zumba, such as Zumba kids & kids Jr., Zumba Gold, and Strong by Zumba. Geraldine has always loved dancing growing up, and when she discovered Zumba she felt an instant connection with the format of dance and fitness. In addition to Zumba she is also a certified Insanity and Cize Live instructor. Geraldine has been teaching group fitness classes since 2014.
