Industry Representative Comprehensive Education Program
Perioperative Services at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has long valued our relationships with our industry colleagues. We are pleased to announce steps that we believe will enhance our abilities to care for our patients. We have adopted new guidelines that have been based on the position statements from the AORN: Association of periOperative Registered Nurses and the American College of Surgeons.
Every Industry Representative must complete the following and be credentialed by BIDMC prior to entering our Operating Rooms.
- Provide evidence of attendance at an Educational Offering that includes the following content; asepsis, blood-borne pathogens, fire and safety protocols, infection control, patient's rights and confidentiality, and traffic patterns.
- Signed statements of Confidentiality and Nondisclosure as well as Content and Policy Review
A BIDMC Comprehensive Industry Representative Education Packet has been developed to assist in the credentialing of Industry Representatives. Each Industry Representative in order to be admitted to the areas of Perioperative Services must be credentialed prior to being admitted. Industry Representative Comprehensive Education packets are available in the OR Scheduling Office that is located on the East Campus on Sherman 260 or on line. Once completed, the documentation is to be returned to the OR Scheduling Office. The Clinical Advisor of OR scheduling or the Perioperative Clinical Nurse Specialist or his/her deisignee will review the information for completeness. Upon successful completion of the requirements the documents will be placed on file in the OR Scheduling Office. A list of credentialed industry representatives will be updated weekly and kept in the Visitor's sign-in book in each of the areas. Only Industry Representatives that are listed will be admitted.
Industry Representatives must sign-in on arrival to the units of Perioperative Services. At that time their credentials will be verified and a nametag will be issued. Industry Representative(s) seeking access to the units to accomplish supply related tasks will be accompanied by an OR Supply Coordinator.
