Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality
BIDMC continues to be recognized as a “Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization. This means we consistently demonstrate our deep commitment to LGBT patients and their families.
Our commitment includes equitable care for all, including non-discrimination policies for LGBT patients and employees, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents, and LGBT health education for key staff members.
To be named a Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality, healthcare providers must earn high marks in the Health Equality Index, an annual survey conducted by the HRC Foundation. The goal of the survey is to guide changes to policies and practices that help strengthen the care institutions give LGBT patients, who can still face significant challenges in securing adequate healthcare.
